A New Lens Offers Up New Insights

People often forget the role of vision

A lot's been said about the subjective nature of the world. In fact, one might be justified in saying that all art comes down to a subjective interpretation of objective items. This might seem like an overly pedantic way of phrasing it. But there's an important distinction to be made there. It places some emphasis on viewpoint. The idea that when people look at something they're not really seeing the thing itself. But, rather, people look at the aspects of an item which correspond to the visible color spectrum. An early lesson in everyone's life comes from realizing that fact. Small children aren't quite sure what happens to the world when the lights go out. They don't see an object anymore. And their natural reaction is to wonder whether that object is still there. Over time people grow and accept that living beings are limited by their eyesight. That we can't see the world, but only reflections of light interacting with our eyes. However, all that changed when humanity started making artificial lenses.

Specializing in a new type of vision

For the first time a species was able to see the world using something other than the natural lenses in their eye. The first addition of plain lenses was a huge boon. And after that the addition of extra computational power allowed for something even more amazing. Now one can order something as amazing as IR lenses online for a quite reasonable price. It's so fast and efficient that people tend to tinker with them to create some really amazing effects. For example, the IR lens provides one with the ability to see into a normally invisible spectrum of light. And in turn, this can easily hook up to cameras. That one fact created a whole new type of art called IR photography. The entire field has only recently become easily accessible to the world. And for the first time people are starting to realize the potential of inexpensive but powerful lenses.
